The Webster Technique
The preferred technique for prenatal chiropractic care. Developed by Larry Webster DC over 30 years ago, the Webster Technique has been observed clinically to be associated with improved pregnancy outcomes since that time. The International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) was founded by Webster to promote and defend the chiropractic care of children, pregnant women and general family wellness care through patient advocacy, post-graduate education and research. The ICPA is the oldest free-standing organization in the chiropractic profession to teach and certify chiropractors on the Webster Technique.
Erianne is wonderful! I started to see her for pelvic pain and because my baby was breech during my pregnancy. She always takes the time to explain what she is doing and why she is doing it. She is super knowledgable and kind. She has helped me remain comfortable and get baby into the correct position for labor and delivery.
Dr. Adams in the absolute best Chiropractor I’ve ever been to. I started seeing her since I was 16 months pregnant. Dr. Adams helped me feel much more comfortable during my entire pregnancy and even helped naturally induce my labor with acupuncture. She is the reason why my pregnancy and delivery went so smoothly. My daughter is now 2 and I still see her every 2-3 weeks for tune ups. I always feel instant relief after our adjustments, cupping and needling appointments. Dr. Adams is extremely knowledgeable and passionate in what she does. It’s comforting to know I’ll feel 100x better than how I came into her room!
I’ve been seeing Dr. Adams for 1.5+ years now and she’s the best of the best! I started seeing her when I was pregnant and have continued going for routine care postpartum and beyond. I can’t say enough good things about her as a chiropractor and caregiver. I feel so great and credit a lot of it to Dr. Adams.

The Webster Technique is a gentle chiropractic approach designed specifically for prenatal care. It focuses on the proper balance and function of the pelvis and surrounding muscles and ligaments. By addressing pelvic function, this technique can help to alleviate common discomforts of pregnancy, improve mobility, and create an optimal environment for both mother and baby.

Benefits of Including a Prenatal Chiropractor to your prenatal team
-
Alleviate Common Pregnancy Discomforts
Many pregnant individuals experience back pain, sciatica, and pelvic discomfort due to postural changes and added weight. The Webster Technique is effective in relieving these symptoms by enhancing pelvic alignment and reducing stress on the spine. -
Enhance Pelvic Balance
By supporting balanced pelvic alignment, the Webster Technique may allow more room for the baby to move into the optimal position for birth, potentially reducing complications during labor. -
Encourage Better Sleep and Relaxation
Chiropractic adjustments have been shown to improve nervous system function, which may reduce stress and help with better sleep, leading to an overall sense of calm and relaxation. -
Support a Shorter and Smoother Labor
By promoting proper pelvic function, prenatal chiropractic care may help prepare your body for a more efficient labor and delivery process. -
Safe, Non-Invasive, and Drug-Free
The Webster Technique offers a safe and drug-free alternative for managing pregnancy discomforts, providing a natural solution for expecting mothers who want to avoid medications.

Biomechanical Changes Associated with Pregnancy
Pregnancy brings incredible changes to the body, especially in the biomechanics of movement, posture, and balance. As the baby grows, the mother’s body adapts to accommodate these changes, which can sometimes lead to discomfort or strain. Prenatal chiropractic care, particularly through the Webster Technique, can play an essential role in helping manage these shifts to promote a healthy, comfortable pregnancy.

Key Biomechanical Changes During Pregnancy:

-
Postural Adjustments
As the abdomen expands, the center of gravity shifts forward, often leading to a swayback posture, known as lumbar lordosis. This change puts increased pressure on the low back and pelvis, leading to common complaints like lower back pain and pelvic discomfort. The Webster Technique helps address these shifts by ensuring that the spine and pelvis are properly supported, easing discomfort. -
Hormonal Influence on Ligaments
During pregnancy, the hormone relaxin is released to soften ligaments in preparation for childbirth. While this flexibility is crucial, it can sometimes lead to joint instability and increased stress on muscles and other structures. Chiropractic care focuses on stabilizing these areas, promoting alignment, and relieving strain on surrounding tissues. -
Increased Pelvic Tilt and Pelvic Girdle Pain
To accommodate the growing baby, the pelvis naturally tilts forward, and the sacroiliac (SI) joints bear increased stress. Many pregnant individuals experience SI joint pain, which can be managed with chiropractic care by optimizing pelvic function and mobility. -
Strain on the Upper Back and Shoulders
As pregnancy progresses, the weight of the growing belly often leads to increased strain on the upper back, shoulders, and neck as the body adjusts to maintain balance. Many women notice rounded shoulders and tightness across the upper back. Chiropractic adjustments and supportive exercises can help reduce these tensions and improve comfort. -
Changes in the Gait
Pregnancy can alter the way you walk, often referred to as the “waddle.” This change occurs as the body accommodates additional weight and a shifted center of gravity. Chiropractic care can help maintain balanced movement, making it easier to stay mobile and active throughout pregnancy. -
Pelvic Floor Adaptations
With added weight and pressure, the pelvic floor muscles can weaken or tighten during pregnancy, which may contribute to discomfort or stress during labor. Working with a chiropractor trained in prenatal care can support the pelvic floor’s function, helping prepare your body for a smoother birthing process.

How Chiropractic Care Supports These Changes

By addressing the spine, pelvis, and surrounding muscles, prenatal chiropractic care helps alleviate pressure, reduce discomfort, and support your body’s natural alignment as it changes. The Webster Technique, in particular, is gentle and specifically tailored to support your body’s biomechanical needs during pregnancy, promoting both maternal comfort and optimal fetal positioning.

Regular chiropractic adjustments during pregnancy are a proactive way to manage the demands of these physical changes, allowing you to stay comfortable, active, and prepared for labor.
